Geography

Meet our Geography co-ordinator, Mrs Hammond.

 Our Vision

A high-quality geography education should inspire in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. Teaching should equip pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.  As pupils progress, their growing knowledge about the world should help them to deepen their understanding of the interaction between physical and human processes, and of the formation and use of landscapes and environments in a sustainable way. At Alresford, we link all our subjects to our school core values wherever we can, they are: Be Kind, Be Honest, Be Responsible. Many of these skills and attitudes can be brought in to Geography lessons through a range of units to develop a well-rounded geographer.

Geography in Action 2023

School and class geography displays and learning tasks from EYFS to Year 6.

Year 5 Solar Farm Trip 2023

Our Year 5 class had two fantastic afternoons with 'Earth Energy Education'. We first had James came into the school to talk to us about climate change and his own exploration to Antarctica, as well as telling us about two famous explorers: Robert Scott and Robert Swan. Then the following day, we visited a solar farm in St Oysth where we saw renewable energy firsthand and learnt about the biodiversity they have developed at this green power site.

Geography Experience Day - May 2022

At Alresford, we run a whole school project where the pupils research and investigate our village using a range of geographical sources such as: their own observations on local walk, ordinal maps and photographs.

During the day, they identified human and physical geographical features gaining knowledge of their local area, immerse them in geographical language and symbols and collect quantitative data. In the upper year groups, they also investigated how our village has changed over time using historical sources.
