Year 5 Long Term Plan
PSHE in Year 5
In September 2020 it was made compulsory for all primary age children to be taught Relationships and Health Education. These subjects are designed to equip your child with knowledge to make informed decisions about their well-being, health and relationships as well as preparing them for a successful adult life.
Each year the children will cover 3 common themes:
- Relationships
- Living in the wider world
- Health and well-being
We will be using the SCARF curriculum to explore PSHE this year. Take a look at the document below at what we will be learning about in PSHE in Year 5.
For further information please look at the PSHE curriculum page on our website.

Reading
Reading regularly is paramount as reading is a transferable skill across all areas of the curriculum. It is really important that your child is reading for at least 80 minutes each week so that they are improving their fluency and comprehension skills and consolidating what has been taught in class. Diaries will be checked each Friday.
Below are Year 5 reading objectives, vipers skills practised in class and recommended reads for Year 5.
Spellings
Below are statutory spellings for Year 5/6.
Every Monday we will send home a list of spellings to learn that we are looking at in class.
There are also some spelling strategies to help with learning the words.
Maths
Reminder - your child can use their Times Table Rockstar logins to practise key times table skills at home.
Another great website is Oxford Owl. It gives ideas for variety of maths activities you could try at home with your child.

PE
This term (Autumn) our PE days are Wednesday (outdoors) and Friday (indoor). Please ensure that your child comes to school in a PE kit that is suitable for the weather when outdoors. Please also make sure that long hair is tied back on these days and any jewellery is removed. Children will not be able to participate if ear piercings are not removed.
